Textural Artworks. With several series fitting into this description, my textural artworks are meditations -- moments to calmly and quietly disconnect from reality, allowing a flow of uncontrolled processes to create the textured artworks. It's a good thing, enabling me to take a break from thinking, whether the thoughts are about the process and technical needs of the piece I am creating or those pressures and needs of my personal life. Somehow these works carry me through them. The textural artworks may contain textures I’ve created or using already textured materials with some textures being very subtle and others more profound.
Textural Meditations (framed), Graphite on Paper Mounted on Wet/Dry Sand Paper Covered Wood Panels. Normally creating works that are physically taxing and time consuming, I began creating these textural meditations shortly before an art viewing journey to New York City. I was creating one on my return flight, and later learned that my grandmother had passed away during that time. In the following weeks, these pieces became therapeutic for me and are now important in keeping my creative energy flowing. To create one, I simply find textures in the paper I am drawing on, allowing my mood to affect the outcome.
